Mervyn's is closing all 15 of its Michigan stores, including locations at the Meridian Mall and Lansing Mall.
Locations are also being closed in half-a-dozen other states.
In a statement, Mervyn's said, "(These) stores have not been profitable in years, and although they comprise approximately 25 percent of all Mervyn's stores, they represent only 17 percent of total sales."
The stores will be closed by February. More than 1,100 people work at the department store chain in Michigan, most part-time.
