Lansing Mayor David Hollister moved one step closer to an appointment in the Granholm administration.

Hollister went before the Senate's Government Operations Committee, seeking confirmation as the new head of the Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

The committee recommended to the full Senate that Hollister be confirmed. Hollister says he wasn't apprehensive, but concerned. He says serving 19 years in the legislature has given him a unique perspective.

Hollister will go before the full Senate next Tuesday. That is when Senators will vote to confirm him as the new head of the economic department.

He says his last official business as Lansing's Mayor will be giving part of the State of the City Address later this month.
