Mary Ricciardello of the Jackson County Health Department said two school-aged kids in the county have the infection. It is unconfirmed whether the cases are related.
Health officials are not calling this an outbreak, but are reminding parents proper hygiene and good hand-washing are the best prevention tools.
Shigellosis is the bacterial infection that swept through both the Lansing and Jackson County school districts last year. Symptoms include fever, abdominal cramps and bloody diarrhea.
