42-year-old Steven Storm appeared in front of Lenawee County District Court Judge James Sheridan via a video arraignment on Friday. He was charged with open murder for the death of 63-year-old Woodstock Township resident Sandra Johnson.
Johnson's body was found partially submerged in Crispell Lake in Liberty Township about a week ago. Investigators say Johnson's body was left at the boat launch on the lake, but couldn't confirm exactly where the death occured. Even so, the news of the crime sent shock waves through the community, especially shocking those who lived close to the victim.
"Shocking because I've lived most of my younger years here and this is a quiet neighborhood. You don't hear much. I mean everybody stays to themselves and it's pretty safe," said Jerry McFarlend, who lives on Sanford Road in Woodstock Township.
Without more answers, some neighbors say they can't help being scared.
"I'm afraid that it might happen to me too. I'm home by myself. I have my son living with me too but he works a lot," said Susan Springer, who also lives on Sanford Road in Woodstock Township.
Judge Sheridan appointed an attorney for Storm who is due back in court December 3 for a preliminary exam. Storm is being held without bond at the Lenawee County Jail.
