"We're still waiting," Said Art Luna of UAW Region 1C who represents workers at Alliance Interiors.

"It's been been off and on," Said Douglas Rademacher, president of UAW Local 602.

Two different strikes, negotiating two different contracts, but all strikers say they're in it for the long-haul.

" As long as it takes, as long as it takes," Said Michael Skinner, a Strike Captain who works at Alliance Interiors.

Union officials for UAW local 724 say Alliance Interiors hasn't been back to the bargaining table since Friday and they're just waiting for a fair and equitable contract 7 months in the making.

"We've told them we're available 24 hours a day 7 days a week; anywhere they want to meet. At the same time, the management staff over at Alliance is in there trying to build that quality carpet that we build," Luna said.

Nearly 2 miles away Delta Township Plant workers at UAW local 602 are striking for issues including work rules, grievances and manpower replacement. Union officials and General Motors negotiated Sunday from 11 a.m. until nearly 1 p.m. when General Motors called off further negotiating until Monday.

"They started out negotiations, exchanged a few comments and the parties decided that they didn't want to talk anymore so when the corporation is ready to start listening to what we're asking for and move on it, then we'll be able to settle this thing and get back to work," Rademacher said.

Meanwhile both unions leaders say the community support has brought a bright side to a bad situation.

"Food being dropped off, water, some of the neighbors in the area," Rademacher said.

"And that strengthens and bonds them, and makes them stronger, " Luna said.

Both local unions are just hoping there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
