The military has confirmed the death of a military police officer from Michigan in Iraq.
Army Specialist Adrian J. Butler of Detroit died July 27 along with Specialist John O. Tollefson of Wisconsin, in Ashraf, Iraq. An improvised explosive device detonated near their patrol. Butler was 28. Tollefson was 22.
Butler's mother, Peggy Donaldson, had confirmed his death last week to the Detroit Free Press. She said Butler hoped to one day become an FBI agent and was killed during his second 14-month tour of duty.
The men were assigned to the 411th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas.
Butler was the 55th member of the US armed forces with known Michigan ties to be killed in Iraq.
