The tri-county's cooling centers remain closed despite the hot and humid weather.
Even though Sunday was the warmest day of the year and the heat index dipped into the low 100s, the centers were never opened.
Ronda Oberlin, of Lansing's Emergency Management Services, says the criteria were never met. The decision is made with help from local meteorologists based on the heat index, the daily temperatures and if it is expected to cool off at night.
Sunday was a scorcher but with the weather expected to break this week, the centers remained closed Monday.
