Michigan Deploys More National Guard Soldiers to the South

An additional 275 Michigan National Guard soldiers will go south to help police and protect in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This following the 182 from Owosso, Pontiac and Taylor flying out Friday.

Taylor's 210th MP Battalion will send 61 soldiers and the 46th MP Company out of Kingsford and Menominee will send 182 soldiers. That group will go to Louisiana.

The 1434th Quartermaster Water Purification Detachment will send 22 soldiers to Mississippi to help the people and property affected by Hurricane Katrina. An additional 10 soldiers from the maintenance contact team, vehicle mechanics and generator repairers, will go to Mississippi as well.

The units report to Taylor Friday and will fly south Sunday.

More soldiers could be sent in the days and weeks ahead.
