Police in Muskegon County think a rip current and cold water temperatures may be to blame in the death of a 19-year-old Lansing area man.
Aaron West of Grand Ledge was swimming in Lake Michigan with friends Monday when he started having trouble in rough waters.
A search was called after his friends lost track of him. A Coast Guard helicopter spotted West about 150 yards from where he disappeared. Efforts to revive him failed. He had been missing in the waters for about two hours.
West was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
