Visitors and patients of Sparrow Hospital will have to go north to park their cars over the next year.
Beginning Saturday, Jan 4, the temporary lot will be in use once construction begins on a five-story parking structure on the hospital's west side.
The project will increase the number of parking spots from 375 to 1,200 and it should take about a year to complete. But in that time, project managers say they're trying to keep inconvenience to visitors to a minimum.
"We'll have valet parking attendants and security officials will assist to minimize traffic as much as possible on Jerome Street," said Todd Cassidy, Parking & Security Manager.
The new lot will be different from the one at the Professional Building. The aisles will be wider and cars won't have to park at an incline.
