Douglas J Expansion Approved

The expansion of Douglas J in Meridian Township was approved Tuesday night.

The township's Board of Trustees passed it on a five to one vote.

The vote allows Douglass J to add space for a new salon and spa as well as housing and other stores at the corner of Hamilton and Okemos Roads, directly across from the current Douglas J salon.

The expansion means the building that is home to the Tuba Museum will be torn down.

Construction is scheduled to begin sometime this winter after the site plan is approved.

Moved out of Okemos 3 years ago & the only reason my family returns is because of the Traveler's Club. Sad to see that historic buildings go! One of the few buildings that made Okemos feel quaint and inviting. Now there is no reason for my family to go back to Okemos, hopefully they reopen somewhere else!! Thanks for the good times Traveler's Club!

Glad this area of downtown Okemos will be revived with new merchant opportunities. Not sure why people are so upset about the business aspect of this. Douglas J is a wonderful local company that employs hundreds of people in our economy. Traveler's Club owners haven't paid their mortgage. Another foreclosure saved.

Another fine example of a huge corporation tearing down small businesses to pave the way for massive monstrosities we don't need.

THIS IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS NEWS I'VE SEEN IN WEEKS. The only historic character LEFT of Okemos (and the ONLY reason why I ever visited the place) was because of the Travelers Club. A complete disgrace, I'm disgusted with all who were on board with this approval.

Meridian Township just lost a very unique business that added character to the tiny downtown Okemos square. I hope the Tuba Museum moves to Old Town Lansing where a business like the Tuba Museum is welcomed. The hardware store across the corner is next to go
