The man who admitted to sexually assaulting a 62-year-old woman on Lansing's River Trail was sentenced to prison Wednesday.
Joseph Dwayne Johnson was sentenced to at least 3 years and 9 months to 15 years in prison.
The 50-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration last month.
The incident happened back in May, when a 62-year-old woman stopped to rest on a bench on the River Trail near Beech and Elm Streets. Johnson was arrested a day later when police spotted him leaving the trail. Lansing police had stepped up patrols along the River Trail because of the assault.
Johnson must also wear a monitoring device for the rest of his life, because he is a habitual offender. He once served a 13-year sentence on sex charges involving a child.
