The response to more kids starting school unprepared is the "Born Learning" Campaign. The campaign is locally sponsored by the Capital Area United Way, the Capital Area Youth Alliance, and the Ingham Intermediate School District.
National public service announcements will show parents taking advantage of every moment to teach their children. Experts say it doesn't require a set time or formal setting; parents can just talk to their kids while doing everyday activities. For example, if they are walking to the mailbox, they can point out trees, cars, or describe colors.
Young children will absorb the information and start building a vocabulary before the age of six.
The campaign will run three years. Its goal is to prepare more children for school.
