The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says fewer deer were killed than expected during this year's firearm hunting season.
The estimated deer harvest totaled 288,000 deer from Nov. 15 to the 30. That includes 158,000 antlered deer and 130,000 antlerless deer.
The kill fell short of pre-season estimates by 37,000 deer.
An estimated 725,000 hunters took to the woods this firearm season. And even though the kill total was down, the number of licenses sold was up slightly to more than 1.7 million.
