In a new FDA approved clinical trial test, doctors are using a substance that actually dissolves away the fat. Doctors inject patients with a naturally occurring enzyme called Collagenase, it's a single injection into areas such as Lipomas, a benign lump of fat, and after a little bruising, and a few weeks of swelling the lumps are gone.
The enzyme is broken down by the body so it does not keep dissolving away through the body. This phase one of the trials is just for Lipomas and if Collagenase proves safe and effective it will then move to wider testing.
