The Detroit Zoo is getting three male white rhinos. Jasiri and Tamba are expected to make the former elephant exhibit their new home this week. A third named Omari will join the group soon.
Five-year-old Jasiri comes to the Detroit Zoo from Florida's Jacksonville Zoo. Four-year-old Tamba is from the Knoxville Zoo in Tennessee, and two-year-old Omari is from San Diego.
The exhibit will be the zoo's first showcasing of white rhinos. They are among the largest living land animals. Adult males weigh approximately 6,000 pounds and stand about six feet tall at their shoulders.
