Two Illinois men and a man from Ohio drowned in Lake Michigan over the weekend as high waves swept Michigan's west coast.
The three victims were a pediatric surgeon from Chicago, a 41-year-old man from Montgomery, Ill., and a 40-year-old man from Cincinnati.
The Chicago Tribune reports Dr. Donald Liu was with his wife for a getaway in Berrien County when he spotted two children struggling in the water Sunday morning. Authorities say the 50-year-old helped the children but was pulled under.
Liu's wife, Dr. Dana Suskind, tells the Chicago Sun-Times her husband "was an amazing man."
Police say the second victim drowned around 12:30 p.m. at Tiscornia Beach in St. Joseph.
According to WWTV-WWUP, the victim from Cincinnati drowned while swimming in Benzie County's Lake Township Sunday evening.
