Blackman Township Public Safety Officers say rescue workers were called to the Polo Club apartments Friday morning to help a child who wasn't breathing.
The girl's parents say they woke up to find her that way.
Once inside, EMS found her dead with facial injuries they deemed suspicious immediately. An autopsy early Saturday morning confirmed their suspicions. They say it was a blunt force head trauma that killed the little girl.
The death is now considered a homicide. They're arrested her father. He is being held until his arraignment Monday in Jackson County Jail.
Blackman Township cannot name the victim or the suspect until after his arraignment. However, the Jackson Citizen Patriot lists her on their obituary page as Amaree Mathis. They name her father as Shawndale Clark.
