Local pharmacists not only fill prescriptions, but they also help customers manage their medications and their health. However, pharmacists say this is getting to be more difficult due to health insurance plans and mail-order pharmacies. Pharmacists say many of these plans do not allow for patients to get their drugs from their local pharmacy.
Pharmacists and advocates say they do not have a problem with mail-order companies, but would like people to have a choice as to where they can go to get their prescriptions filled.
The tour will end in Washington D.C. and deliver a petition to legislators to highlight the importance of both personal care from local pharmacists and the importance of choice.
