The US Senate Tuesday approved an energy bill that includes an amendment by Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan (D) requiring the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether gas prices are being artificially manipulated.
Stabenow said, "At the same time that rising gas prices are causing Michigan families to think about curtailing their summer vacations, oil companies are announcing all-time record profits."
The House and Senate must agree on one version of the Energy Bill. Once passed, the FTC has 90 days to conduct its investigation.
