Secretary of State Ruth Johnson expects the federal government to sue over the fact that 70 city and township clerks missed the deadline to mail absentee ballots to military and overseas voters. Another 215 haven't responded to her office's request for a status update on their absentee ballots. They may be forced to extend the deadline for absentee ballots to be returned. The only local community known to have missed the deadline is Locke Township in eastern Ingham County. The townships that haven't responded to the request include:
