The Detroit City Council wants to join a lawsuit seeking records related to an $8.4 million whistle-blowers' settlement approved by Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
The Detroit News reports Friday that the council's attorney will ask a judge to allow it to join the Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by that paper and the Detroit Free Press.
News attorney James Stewart says the newspaper also filed a motion to have the city's communications provider release a transcript of text messages from former Kilpatrick Chief of Staff Christine Beatty's pager.
E-mails between the attorney for former police officers in the whistle-blowers' suit settlement and city lawyers, and Kilpatrick's pager records beginning last August also are being sought.

It does not show the character of a person in a good light if his own council does not trust him.

Since the whistle-blower suit is being paid for publicly, the case as a whole should be part of the public domain. Kwame, you have already been caught. Stop trying to stonewall the public.
