A grim discovery in the Red Cedar River has the Ingham County Sheriff's Office investigating a homicide. Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth won't say what the exact contents are just that the two double bagged garbage bags found near Webberville in Leroy Township are human remains.
An Ingham County Health Department employee found the first bag Monday afternoon as he was testing water samples. He'd noticed the bag one week earlier and at the second sighting he opened it. The second bag was discovered Tuesday morning by the Sheriff's Office's dive team. An autopsy confirmed they contained human remains.
Wriggelsworth says his office is working with other agencies and they're looking into missing person reports. Eaton County was mentioned specifically.
