Detroiter Aretha Franklin is slated to sing at the inaugural festivities for Governor-elect Jennifer Granholm.

The “Queen of Soul” will sing the National Anthem during the inaugural program on Jan. 1. That follows the official swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol steps.
Granholm calls Franklin a “true Michigan treasure.”

Franklin has won 17 Grammy Awards. She moved to Detroit with her parents when she was a toddler.
