Michigan is one of only five states to require food be labeled with a price. The state legislature passed the "item pricing act" in 1976. Now, retailer associations are pushing for the lame duck session to pass a law changing the requirement.
The Michigan Consumer Federation is upset about the legislation.

But retailers say they want consumers to know what merchandise costs. They also say it could cost less if money was saved on labor hours now used to hand label items.
