News 10 first brought you the story in February, when 12-year-old Samma went missing. Her body was found a week later in Clinton County.
Police say 36-year-old Steven James Gilbert led them to her remains. He was charged immediately.
He was in court Monday for his lawyer to present the results of an independent psychiatric exam. The state's already completed their exam and cleared him for trial. This exam was requested by his lawyer to double check if the accused killer is competent to stand trial and responsible for his alleged crimes. Monday, that exam was no complete, and so the judge pushed Gilbert's July trial back to September.
Samantha Detzler's mother broke down in court at the news. She tells News 10 she's bitterly disappointed by today's move, but she'll continue to be at every court date.
