A Jackson man is dead after a shooting on the city's south side.

When police arrived around 10 o'clock Monday night to the 1000 block of Adrian Street, they found the victim, 22-year-old Ricky Darnell Upshaw, in the driveway.

Police say Upshaw took a bullet to his back. He was immediately taken to Allegiance \Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The Jackson Police Department is working with the Jackson County Major Crimes Task Force to put this case together.

Investigators say Upshaw's death is being investigated as a homicide, and currently they're trying to establish a motive and a suspect.

"We're following up on some leads right now, said Lieutenant Christopher Simpson of the Jackson Police Department. " We have quite a bit of ground to cover, and hopefully throughout the investigation we'll get somebody arrested."

Police say they've talked to a few witnesses, and were canvassing neighborhoods for more information.

As of Tuesday morning no arrests have been made.
