12-year-old Brandy Gray was last seen at her home in El Dorado, Kansas early Thursday before being found with 20-year-old Kenneth McGill who's from Ontario, Canada.
Authorities in Kansas confirmed that the two met over the internet.
On Friday, agencies in Michigan stepped in to help find the missing child.
"They had some kind of investigative leads that had them believe that he was headed this direction and based on that, they put out the information for assistance from other agencies which is standard operations any time someone leaves a local jurisdiction," said Lt. Kyle Bowman from Michigan State Police.
Four Michigan agencies including State Police combed the area on I-69 on Friday looking for a white 2003 Chevrolet Impala with Canada license plates.
According to Lt. Bowman, they received information that the suspect could be heading into Canada via the Blue Water Bridge. At about 3:40pm on Friday, troopers spotted the car with the canada license plates in Chester Township, Eaton County.
The 20-year-old man was arrested. Brandy is in protective custody and authorities say the priority now is to get her back home.
"We're obviously going to try and reconnect the young lady with her family as soon as possible and I know they're working on those arrangements back in Kansas now," said Lt. Bowman.
