A Jackson County man has been arrested and could face charges of child abuse and torture after his girlfriend's children received severe hot water burns.
The man was arrested Wednesday evening in Blackman Township.
Authorities say the children, a 1-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, had second- and third-degree burns on the lower parts of their bodies.
The man, who was caring for the children, says he left the children in the bath tub, but says they must have changed the water temperature.
The children are in critical, but stable, condition.
The Blackman-Leoni Public Safety Department says the injuries appear intentional.
The man is in jail and is expected to be arraigned on Friday.
