Gateway Medical Clinic is part of the Gateway Community Services. It serves about 1,600 uninsured clients each year and has been in operation for 35 years.
Executive director of the Gateway Community Services Stefanie Zin says due to budget cuts and a drop in donations, the clinic may have to shut its doors.
They are reaching out to the community and local hospitals for help. Zin says if the clinic closes, many patients will flood local emergency rooms for routine care thus causing longer wait times and increased costs for hospitals.
Zin also hopes to get funding from the city of Lansing because many of the clinic's clients live in Lansing.
A fundraiser will be held June 17. For information on the event or to make a donation, call 517-351-4000.
