What kids learn might be the same...
But this isn't your daddy's kind of lecture.
"The software works in conjunction with the tablet and what the software allows me to do is capture everything that goes on the tablet PC," Okemos High School Teach Kelly Carrier said.
Kelly Carrier has a unique way of teaching biology and chemistry at Okemos High School. He uses his tablet computer to write notes and graphs, his PC to show videos... And thanks to a software program called Camtasia.... all of it can be recorded.
"It makes learning easier and that's the most important part," Carrier said.
The really easy part--students can pull up carrier's lectures at home - exactly how they saw it and heard it...In class.
"They're able to hear my voice and see any instructions I'm giving," he said. "It also allows them to pause, rewind and individualize it for the student."
"I really like the software. I use it all the time to study for tests," Dan Chapman, one of Carrier's students, said.
"I'm more of a visual learner and when you have it up there it brings it to life," Diana Benson, another one of Carrier's students, said.
Carrier said the best part of the software is that the videos can be downloaded to iphones or ipods which means you don't have to be in a classroom to learn.
"What we're doing with the software and the tablet is basically extending the learning outside the classroom," Carrier said.
What's more...You don't have to go outside of town to find the creators of the software.
Tech Smith... An IT company based in Okemos for more than 20 years...created Camtasia.
"We realized a picture is worth a 1000 words - then we realized video may be worth more," said Troy Stein, the creator of the software said.
Stein, the brains behind Camtasia, says Tech Smith is expanding by 40 percent every year and selling more and more products worldwide.
"To have a company in Michigan that's able to reach people locally and internationally is fantastic," Stein said.
And he said they're committed to expanding right here in Michigan.
"One of the cool things about Camtasia is that it's all developed locally with local talent and very creative people from Michigan," he said.
Michigan's best...
Coupled with Michigan's brightest...
