A 62-year-old woman says she was assaulted and touched inappropriately on Lansing's river trail Sunday afternoon.
The woman says at about 2:30 p.m. she took a break from her bike ride and was sitting on a bench along the trail near Beech and Elm. A man rode up on his bike and sat down on the bench and began talking to her.
She says she became uncomfrtable with the direction of the conversation,but when she tried to leave the man jumped her, assaulted her and touched her inappropriately.
The victim was able to fight off the man, escape on her bicycle and call police.
The alleged attacker is described as a white man, about 50-years-old, 6 feet tall, thin build, scraggly gray, shoulder length hair. The woman said he also had large ears, a large nose and some sort of small tattoo on his right forearm. He was wearing square rim glasses.
Police are putting extra patrols out on the river trail.
