A 12-year-old girl drowned Saturday night after falling into the Shiawassee River, just Southeat of Owosso.
The young girl has been identified as Kyesha Monae Pascal of Flint Michigan.
The Kyesha was walking across the Shiatown Dam with her family, when she fell into about 20 feet of cold, fast-moving water, according to Shiawassee County officials.
It happened around 5:30 Saturday near Bancroft and Benningtown Roads. Crews spent more than four hours searching for her. Her body was recovered just after 9:30 p.m.
Three dive teams were called out to assist in the search. Bystanders and family members also made rescue attempts. Officials say the cold water, swift river flow and depth near the dam hampered those efforts.
