The Livingston County Sheriff's Department sent a letter to people living in Handy Township saying it plans to start Firearms Training on county property located on the south side of Sargent Road. That property, however, is surrounded by a dozen homes.
The letter says deputies and the Tactical Team will train about four months a year. Training will include work with firearms.
The letter says, "Weapons will be discharged into a 24-foot-high earth bank, directed away from housing and population. NO TRESPASSING signs will be posted on and around the property. Range Safety Officers will be present."
But people living in the area say they worry about their safety, noise pollution, and property values decreasing. They also say they're upset they weren't contacted for input before the decision was made.
