Lansing Police Arrest Suspect in Sexual Assault

Lansing police may have caught a serial rapist who may have attacked as many as five women in the last 10 months.

The suspect is a 33-year-old man from Lansing. Police aren't yet releasing his name.

Officers arrested him in the 500 block of W. Holmes Rd. just before 4 p.m. Thursday.

They got a tip from neighbors, who spotted a suspicious man on S. Washington Ave.

The suspect is being held on a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge and has not yet been arraigned.

The most recent attack happened March 17 at a home in the 4600 block of Lowcroft Ave.

Lansing police worked with state and federal agencies to identify a suspect following that assault. At the time, police told News 10 they were investigating five assaults, at least four of which appeared to be linked.

Police are not saying if the man they arrested Thursday is a suspect in the other sexual assaults. So far, he's only charged with the attack on Lowcroft Ave.

The other three assaults police believe are related happened in May 2011 in the 4200 block of Richmond, in July in the 2800 block of Gibson, and in Sept. in the 4000 block of Christiansen.

Those locations are all in the same part of town, and police told us last month location was one of the links in the cases.

Why did the lansing police wait sooo long to tell the public that there was a serial rapist running around lansing? How many victims need compile before they warn the public?

He should consider himself lucky to be arrested rather than choosing to break into a house that had a loaded shotgun waiting for him. Not all women are unprepared for unwelcomed visitors.
