According to the "Gift of Life," 46 people have already died this year while waiting for an organ donation. There are at least 2,600 others still on the waiting list for an organ.
"Buddy Day" brings awareness to everyone that they can save a life by adding their name the Michigan Donor Registry. It is no longer enough to just mark the back of your license. If you want to give the gift of life, you can visit any Secretary of State office, fill out a form, and then tell your family you are an organ donor.
"You cannot imagine the joy you can bring to a family," says Rita Skidmore, who donated her kidney to a friend. Skidmore also says her granddaughter was saved by a liver transplant.
