General Motors, Ford and Daimler Chrysler are normally in a heated competition to drive profits and cut costs. But a recent collaboration between the big three and auto-part sellers has them sharing information to help Michigan autoworkers.

The Capital Area Michigan Works presented a million-dollar check to Michigan Virtual University. The online university is giving the big three automakers and suppliers the means to share non-proprietarily information to benefit workers.

Items like lean manufacturing and safety could benefit in the online training university.

The program is set up for a three-year period, with the possibility of $2 million in federal funds given to Michigan Virtual University over the next two years.
