Michigan Unemployment Dips Below Nation

For the first time in nearly two years, Michigan's unemployment rate fell below the national rate.

Michigan's October unemployment rte was 5.6 percent. The national rate last month was 5.7 percent.

Over a two-year period, the jobless rate for Michigan and the nation increased at identical rates of nearly two percent.

Gov. John Engler says the news indicates that Michigan's economy is stronger and more flexible than in past recessions when the state's unemployment rate outpaced the nation's.
