JACKSON - The father of a 4-month-old boy hospitalized with injuries to his head has now been charged with child abuse and assault. Thomas L. Carter, 24, of Jackson was arraigned on felony charges of first-degree child abuse and assault with intent to do great bodily harm. Carter's son was taken to Allegiance hospital Saturday, where doctors saw that the boy had head injuries. The infant was flown to Mott's Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor for intensive treatment. A hospital spokesperson tells us the child was in good condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
Carter was arraigned late Monday. He was released on $5,000 bond.
Watch News 10 tonight at 6 o'clock for more on this case, and an examination of the issue of child abuse in Jackson County.

The mother in this case has an older child who she has primarily cared for. That child has never been in harms way and is very well cared for. I'm sure that she made a poor choice in a mate/father of the baby in this case.

Who was the judge that let him go?

$5000 bond? That's it, you put your child in the hospital and you can get out of jail on a $5000 bond. That's not right.

Please don't give that child back to the parents. Was the mom involved? They need to make him relinquish all parental rights. And he should still be in jail instead of being released on a meazly $5,000 bond. Anyone who abuses a child needs to be sitting in jail!

Poor little baby! Why does this guy even get a trial...he should be killed. Anyone who harms a baby should deserve to die!

He needs to be neutered. He doesn't deserve to father children just so he can abuse them.He needs to be ordered not be around children because he can't be trusted not to harm them.

If he is found guilty of these charges, then this is a perfect example of why Michigan needs the death penalty.

That is a beyond ignorant sentiment. We DO NOT "need" the death penalty in Michigan. I know how upsetting this type of story is, but let's not get overzealous here. Plus - this is not a case where he would be penalized with such as the child is recovering and was not, thankfully, murdered.

I don't understand what happened. Everybody is speculating. Let the answers appear before making judgements. This guy I hear has suffered from mental problems, plus is on kidney dialysis, and just lost his mother. And God knows what else has happened. Let God be the judge and wait until the facts come out. We are all accountable for ourselves and not no one else's family.
