JACKSON - The father of a 4-month-old boy hospitalized with injuries to his head has now been charged with child abuse and assault. Thomas L. Carter, 24, of Jackson was arraigned on felony charges of first-degree child abuse and assault with intent to do great bodily harm. Carter's son was taken to Allegiance hospital Saturday, where doctors saw that the boy had head injuries. The infant was flown to Mott's Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor for intensive treatment. A hospital spokesperson tells us the child was in good condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
Carter was arraigned late Monday. He was released on $5,000 bond.
