Lansing's Mayor Presents Plan to Balance the City's 2006 Budget

Council members don't think the 2006 budget will have a direct impact on residents, at least not in the short term.

For those who use some parks and recreation programs, however, there are several programs now on the chopping block.

Mayor Tony Benavides' office is also proposing a separation from Potter Park Zoo, essentially cutting its city funding and handing over its management to the Zoological Society.

Also of note, Benavides intends to "gradually reduce the size of its [the city's] Workforce."

But the mayor says he does not plan to do it through layoffs, only natural attrition.
