There will be extra police on patrol in East Lansing Friday night, but no problems are expected. Police have put been promoting safe celebrating and they feel students are listening.

Charles Charlton, MSU senior, says he doesn't think anything will happen when the Spartan's take on the Duke Blue Devils Friday. And Captain Juli Liebler, of the East Lansing Police Department, agrees. Liebler says she thinks students understand what it means to celebrate responsibly.

But who can forgot what's happened in the past, September 1997, when a riot occurred on Gunson Street? Then in 1998, a peaceful protest at Munn Field turned ugly and spread to the downtown area. In March of 1999, the most destructive riot in recent history happened when MSU lost to Duke in the Final Four. And just two years ago, there was another riot during March Madness.
