Michigan gas prices are up 4.6 cents this week. That brings the average cost of a gallon of self-serve unleaded regular gas to a record $2.13.06.

The previous record high was $2.13.01, set in May 2004.

Triple-A Michigan says gas prices have risen 38.5 cents a gallon since the start of the year. And the auto club says the current price is nearly 40 cents higher than the average this time a year ago.
