Harry Houdini was known all over the world for his escapes from
handcuffs and straight jackets. He collected and studied these items
to figure out how to pick the locks. He was also known for informing
the public about fake mediums and psychics. Although he was a
self-promoter, he is known as one of the first superstars of the
Houdini performed in Michigan several times, including his last performance. He was admitted to Grace Hospital after that performance and died a week later on Halloween in 1926.
An exhibit of Houdini artifacts will be at the Michigan Historical Museum
