Gum Disease and Premature Birth

Due to these studies the March of Dimes is funding a new program at the Mid-Michigan District Health Department. The program is called "Brush Up For Baby."

It targets low-income women in the Women, Infants, and Children program at the health department. Its purpose is to educate pregnant women on the risks of gum disease and pre-mature babies.

Pre-term births are the leading cause of mental retardation, cerebral palsy and blindness.
