Discussions about state schools superintendent Tom Watkins' future are heating up.

There is a possibility an agreement could be reached for him to resign within the next few days. But no agreement has yet been reached.

Watkins and his attorney met with leaders on the State Board of Education late Wednesday and discussions are expected to continue.

Governor Jennifer Granholm wants Watkins to resign. But the power to hire and fire the schools chief rests with the State Board of Education.
