Governor elected Jennifer Granholm has appointed long time local democrat H. Lynn Jondahl to head her transition team charged with reviewing state taxes and budgets.

The announcement comes as Granholm prepares to take office and deal with her top priority, reducing the state's mushrooming deficit.

Tuesday night at her victory celebration in Detroit democrat Granholm warned that state service cuts were on the horizon. Meanwhile former Gov. Jim Blanchard called the budget crisis a "self imposed" problem created by the outgoing Engler administration.

Granholm wants to convene a summit of the state's top economists to help get her arms around the extent of the budget red ink.
