For the first time, Gov. Jennifer Granholm says she is willing to discuss a possible gas tax increase, but the Senate GOP leader remains strongly opposed to any such move.

Sen. Ken Sikkema says the governor’s invitation to talk is "meaningless," and he predicts there won't be any fuel tax hike this year.

Various road building groups are pushing the increase, and the head of the County Road Association tells News Ten he is encouraged that the governor is at least willing to discuss the issue.

The last time the gas tax was increased was in 1997.
