GM Offering Early Deals

General Motors is slashing prices on its mid-size sport utility vehicles, which compete in one of the industry's toughest segments.

The world's largest automaker is trimming prices by $1500 to $2000 on the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, and Buick Rainier. The vehicles already carry $2000 cash rebates.

Automakers don't normally reduce prices in the middle of a model year. But GM says the decision was made after a routine review of how the company's vehicle pricing compared with competitors in all categories.

It also came after a disappointing January in which GM's US business rose one percent from a year ago and its light truck sales were flat. But TrailBlazer, Envoy, and Rainier sales all were off.
