They may look cute and cuddly, but these tigers at the Potter Park Zoo are still wild animals -- wild animals that can be unpredictable. At the San Francisco Zoo on Christmas day, a 350 pound tiger got out of her enclosure and killed one teenager and wounded two others. But the Miller family says that incident didn't scare them away from Potter Park on Saturday.

"They have cages up to the sky where you can't reach or get over," says Desjarae.

Says her father Steve, "We've been here before, and we've seen the enclosures. We feel safe here."

The zoo has a total of six big cats, including three tigers. The tiger exhibit has seventeen foot walls with a three foot kick at the top.

"So that if the tigers ever did climb, they would end up going upside down and then falling," explains Zoo Keeper Jan Brigham.

The snow leopard enclosure has seventeen foot walls, as well, and is covered with a net.

"Because they're such good climbers, we have to cover the whole enclosure."

And as for the lion exhibit, it, too, has 17 foot side walls with a 22 foot moat. And Brigham says Potter Park recently added a two door safety system for the exhibits.

"That's for our safety, but also for the public's safety too. So that if you should forget to lock the first set of gates you would certainly have the second set locked."

As an added precaution, the zoo does a "Code Green" or animal escape drill at least four times a year.

"There are two people that go and get shotguns, that we keep on zoo grounds, in case we have to do a shoot to kill. We also have our vet who goes right away to get the tranquilizer gun."

They're all measures to ensure the public can enjoy the big cats without worrying about their safety.
