Ten years ago Abdul Kadir Dahir lived in a refugee camp in Somalia. Today he lives in Lansing, owns his own business and as of noon on Monday is a United States Citizen.

Dahir joined 377 others at the Wharton Center for the ceremony. Seventy-two countries were represented; men and women who had to live in the United States for at least five years before they could even begin the application process. Once applicants they had dozens of interviews, piles of paperwork and finally their naturalization ceremony.

After the ceremony the new citizens registered to vote and applied for social security numbers and United States passports.
